The Morton Salt Company is one of the most recognized brands in the world. The company was established in 1848 in Chicago, and is one of the most trusted authorities in the salt business. With the iconic umbrella girl as the company’s logo, you’re likely to find their sold products in stores all over the world.
What many people don’t know is that Morton water softeners are some of the best in the industry. That’s right: the same company you trust for your salt also offers water softener systems for your home.
Why would a salt company choose to offer water softeners? They require the use of salt of course.
What really impresses us is that the company’s water softeners are some of the best on the market, and there are two in particular there we’re going to talk about: the Morton M30 and the Morton MSD34C. Both work exceptionally well, but they are in two different price ranges.
Morton M30 Water Softener Review
The M30 is the more affordable model, and features a compact single tank design. This unit’s dimensions are just 17” x 21” x 43”. Offering high water flow rates of over 11 gallons per minute, this unit can accommodate the entire house with ease.
Pros
- Can be manually regulated instead of automatically regenerated.
- Easy to install.
- Requires little upkeep.
This model is fast and efficient. You’ll be softening the water at 30,000 grains, and the flow rate is not hindered by the water softener, which is seen with many other models. This model can produce 11 gallons of water per minute, meaning you’ll be able to shower, flush the toilet and use the sink without worrying about hindering your flow quality in the process.
Specifications
- Weight: 95 pounds
- Dimensions: 21” x 17” x 43”
- Grain Capacity: 30,000
- Volt: 120/24 V
- Warranty: 10-year tank / 1-year parts
With the M30, you’re buying a top-quality water softener that costs under $500. This is the lower-end model, as the MSD34C is slightly more expensive, but they serve two different purposes.
For small businesses or homes, I highly recommend the M30.
Morton MSD34C Review
The MSD34C is more costly and priced in the $640 range. This unit is a water conditioner that is capable of offering 34,000 grain demand regeneration. Highly effective, this unit will learn your water usage and regenerate as needed – no user input required.
Pros
- Holds 175 pounds of salt, and uses less salt for regeneration.
- Smart regeneration saves water and salt.
- Removes up to 4 ppm water iron.
Cons
- Can only be ordered online.
- Control board issues.
Two separate users had issues with the control board breaking during transport. This is to be expected when the unit is transported, and is not much of a concern as the company does offer an outstanding warranty.
Installation is fast and easy, and this unit utilizes smart regeneration to save you water and salt. Being able to hold 175 pounds worth of salt at one time, this is a set-and-forget unit that is both energy-saving and removes 4 ppm of iron. Plus, this unit has a 34,000 grain capacity.
Specifications
- Weight: 91 pounds
- Dimensions: 18.2” x 13.2” x 48”
- Grain Capacity: 34,000
- Volt: 120/24 V
Aside from some users having the unit broken during transport, I highly recommend this unit. Not only is it easy to install, but it effectively reduces the hardness of your water and does it without having to regenerate the unit manually. It’s the perfect choice for larger homes, and you’ll actually save money thanks to the salt saving system.
