Watts RV PRO-1000 Review

The Watts RV PRO-1000 allows you to enjoy soft water while you’re out on your next RV or camping adventure. Portable in design and lightweight, this water softener is easy to install, affordable and is just as effective as the whole house system you use at home.

The RV PRO-1000 provides a flow rate of up to 4gpm without affecting water pressure. This means that you can enjoy soft water without compromising on comfort.

Just like other water softeners, this unit uses salt to soften the water. Common table salt is all you need to keep this unit working. The unit will remove calcium, magnesium and trace amounts of iron from your water to prevent hard water staining and allow you to enjoy a more comfortable shower.

The unit comes with a built-in flow restrictor that works with the drain line to make regeneration more effective. The restrictor also increases the capacity by up to 55%. With a custom-designed flow valve, regeneration can take place without having to connect/reconnect the system.

There’s only one caveat with the RV PRO-1000: everything is manual. Everything from regeneration to back flushing and rinsing will need to be done by you. To perform these tasks, you’ll need to manually change the hoses. While slightly inconvenient, it’s a simple enough process that anyone can do.

Installation is easy, too, and Flow Pur provides detailed instructions on how to install the system in your RV – or wherever you choose to use it. The system boasts a 10,000 grains capacity and uses premium, high capacity resin. You’ll need about two pounds of salt for each regeneration, but regeneration time is only ten minutes. Twice per year, you’ll need to perform a back flush of the system to clean out the resin bed.

Pros

  • Easy to install
  • Convenient portable design
  • Allows you to treat water while traveling in your RV or camping
  • Test strips allow you to test the hardness of water to ensure the unit is working correctly
  • Offers a 4gpm flow rate without affecting water pressure
  • Made in the USA

Cons

  • Manual operations

As mentioned previously, you’ll need to regenerate, back flush and rinse the system yourself. This is to be expected with a portable water softener, but still something that needs to be considered.

Also, you may consider having your water run through a sediment filter and/or a carbon block filter before it reaches the water softener to prevent contamination of the resin bed.

If you travel often in your RV, you probably stop at numerous camp sites that have very hard water. The Watts RV PRO-1000 can help prevent hard water deposits to protect your appliances and pipes on board. Finding an effective portable water softening system is not always easy, but Watts offers a premium product that is wider considered to be the best portable water softener. Did we mention the RV PRO-1000 is made in the USA? If you’re looking for a quality RV water softener, the RV PRO-1000 is the right choice for you.
